The Bank of Exchange/Value is the cumulative project of Wendy Ewald's 2009 Collaborative Art class at Amherst College. The project is an effort to raise awareness and increase the effectiveness of non-monetary exchanges among students at Amherst College and residents living in Amherst Housing Authority’s properties and Clark House, particularly senior citizens. We believe that with tough economic times upon us, seniors are having to rely more and more on the giving spirit, favors, or bartering of family, friends, and community to supplement their income and continue to live independently. Recent cuts to the elder home care service budget have placed some elders at risk.
The Collaborative Art Class of Fall 2010 will be making further advancements in the Bank of Exchange/Value. The class is currently accepting senior citizens, and we are always looking for feedback from the local community. To find out more about the class visit the course website.
